MCA-I Madison Pro Pitch Event
Many students and newly minted media graduates always ask how to get their first job. How do you get your foot in the door? The famous Catch-22 is you can’t get a job without experience and you can’t get experience without a job. AM I RIGHT?
There are some proactive things you can do to get in the industry just a little faster. You can join a networking group or a professional organization. This goes without saying because everyone in this group is just like you. You will begin to understand the language of the industry and keep up with the newest technologies and find many professional friends. It is usually a group of like-minded people and more than likely, you will fit right in.
In Madison, that group is the Media Communications Association –International (MCAI). These professionals make a point of meeting new talent and encouraging young professionals to pursue a career in the production industry.
On Tuesday, January 24th, MCAI professionals will visit the Madison Media Institute to help graduates and other students in the Pro-Pitch Student Event. The professionals look over the students’ stories, demo reels and resumes and will give valuable feedback. It is a busy evening as professionals go from student to student to student.
Several interviews could likely be set up for future jobs.
Many of us in the media industries had to start somewhere and this type of networking is the best way to start.
